Xmas Salver Requests for entrants!!

Ok folks, we have had a few replies, about 12 so far. If you are thinking of playing we do need to know by the 14th December. It would be preferable though if you replied to this post ASAP as we do need to arrange the fabulous prizes for this particular event. Please see the previous post for the details of the day at Royal Aston on the 27th December.

This is always a great day out and a good laugh over the festive period. Hopefully you will be able to gleam yourself away from the sofa and get some winter air in your lungs.

I'm sure all of our members will want to wish our jovial Captain Mr Steve Corley (nearly CBE) a very Merry Christmas!

Aldenham Golf Day Results

On a fairly pleasant day- which latterly went rather sodden we had a very good turnout at Aldenham GC. Our laudable Captain-the Honourable Mr Steve Corley (almost CBE) arranged a fantastic track for us all to play on and we must commend him on his choice-rar,rar.

There were some exceptional scores posted on the day with only a couple of clowns ( eh Darren) out there.

Poor old David Howard had a slightly awkward lie (above) in the bunker on the 17th, but managed to only take 3 to get out! We can safely say that this is a great course for a society and apart from the downpour at the end the day was a great success. The winner on the day with a fabulous score of 45 points was Ben Briffett, in second place pipped again was Woody with the inimitable Rocky third. Nearest the Pin was David Howard and Longest Drive was Danny Horne. Team winners were Ben Briffett`s group surprise surprise!

Below are the new handicaps of the players who took part:

Ok guys all that leaves now is a reminder about the Xmas Salver which is on the Blog- please look at the info listed in the previous posts. Great having you all on board- off now to check out La Cala with the tour committee and of course our reverend Captain will be on board to see that all is ship shape for the forthcoming Tour in June 2013. I will let you know details as soon as we have arranged the dates and costings. Over and out Jules.

Away Day at Stoke By Nayland- Results

Well folks what a weekend!
This was a Ryder Cup jolly organised by your very own Tour man Mr Dave Brown. What a guy, he sorted out a great venue and even arranged for Europe to stuff the Yanks on their own turf-splendid stuff.

We played 36 holes over 2 days with the Ryder Cup on the sunday night being the focus of our attentions albeit a certain dignified member of our society- yes your very own Capitano Mr Steve Corley was in double celebratory mood as he managed an ACE on the 10th.

Much to his bemusement-he didn`t think it was that good a shot- he slotted a 3 iron in from 195 yards on the 10th hole of The Constable course. It cost him a few quid, but hey ho who cares.

Kevin Tyler won the money overall with a sneaky win over John "Rocky" Searle. John Coyle & Jules won the nearest the pins. Below are a couple of snaps of the last hole-a real toughie! Kev Tyler managed to top it  about 20 feet only bettered by our beloved Captain who knocked it forward about 200mm.

Invitation only Christmas Salver - Now Booked 27th December 2012 @ Royal Aston.

OK folks the date for your diary and a chance to escape the clutches of the in laws!!

We will be playing at Royal Aston AKA Stevenage GC. First tee off is 9 am. Number of places available 40. Usual coffee, bacon rolls before the golf and then 18 holes around this Jack Nicklaus designed area.
Stevenage GC - Car Park

Stevenage GC - Hole number 2

Stevenage GC - Hole number 18

Then after the exquisite dinner there will be the customary presentation by your very own Mr T Johnson
well known on the national circus and comedy circuits. Should be a laugh- it was for most of you last year.

Expected cost of £40 for this golfing extravaganza.  Please let Jules know if you are able to make this very fun day as soon as possible, as we are expecting it to be a high turn out this year.

As per usual there will be an after event drink up at our usual haunt - The Horns at Datchworth.

Next Golf Day is at Aldenham GC on the 19th October

Firstly apologies as it seems that a few of you haven`t been receiving the emails about upcoming events. Rest assured we are on the case and hopefully this has now been sorted. However you can always check out this site for information in your spare time!

Okay the next golf day is at Aldenham GC............Click here to view their website

The Club has two well established golf courses set in beautiful parkland and only 15 miles from the centre of London.  The best time to visit is in Spring and in Autumn when the many different species of trees are either in blossom, or the leaves are turning.

The main 18 hole Church Course is a challenge for both the experienced and casual golfer.  It is kept well manicured with tree lined fairways, ditches and ponds.  The feature hole is the 13th par 5.  This was for many years the longest hole in the country measuring 621 yards.

The date is Friday the 19th October, the first tee off time is 9.30 so ETA is 8.30 please for coffee and bacon rolls followed by 18 holes of delightful golf and then the customary ham egg and chips and of course the presentation of prizes to the lucky winners and teams. As ever our now super fit rugby training/playing Captain the one and only Mr Steve Corley (nearly CBE) will be honouring you all with his presence and presenting the prizes. The cost for the day is £40.00 payable in cash on arrival. Please could you let me know if you will be attending before the 15th September. Many thanks, looking forward to a good turnout. Thanks Jules.

Next Golf Day 3rd August 2012- The Hertfordshire GC

We have secured a slot at The Hertfordshire GC- a rather splendid venue near Broxbourne. One of our members Dave Brown has got us a deal. The cost for the day will be £45.00 which will include the usual Coffee/Bacon rolls, 18 holes of golf and meal afterwards.

We will also be partaking in a few beers at The Horns Pub in Datchworth afterwards. First tee off is 10.30 so please arrive by 9.30 ish. We have booked 16-20 places and so numbers are limited. This time it would be appreciated if we could get more responses!! Thanks Jules

The Cambridge Event is now OFF- due to lack of numbers.

Much to our beloved Captain Mr Steve Corley's dismay we are having to call off the trip to Cambridge. There has been a very lackluster response to this jolly and we cannot get the price down enough with the numbers who DID respond to make it worthwhile. So its a no go. However we are thinking of doing a Golf day early August and we will let you know very soon about this. Many thanks Jules

Whitehill golf day results and write up

On a glorious sunny May day, 16 able(ish) golfers attended the golf society day at Whitehill golf club. Results were mixed.  The course proved to be quite tricky at times, with an unforgiving rough and plenty of opportunities for people to lose their balls! (eh Dave B!) However those who kept to the short stuff found that the course could be favourable.

Our reigning champ / chump Phil Nightingale started off the proceedings, with his delicate footwork on the tee, It was a bit like dancing on ice, but on grass (see below).

Considering the windy conditions on some holes, some good scores came in, notably our patriarchal captain Steve Corley with 34 points and Phil Marlor (shame about the shorts) with 33 points.  Another memorable moment was Danny Horne's eagle on the par 5 sixth hole with a 9 iron from 126 yards that holed out.

The winner on the day with a well played 38 points was Phil Herring, who was consistent from tee to green throughout the round.  Closely followed by a previous winner Ed Coupland on 37 points.  Third was Kev Tyler on 34 points who also walked away with the nearest the pin trophy on the 15th hole, shooting it to within 18 inches.  The longest drive was won by the powerhouse that is Phil Nightingale.  Some say he resembles John Daly on the tee (in his clothes only).

Please do not forget that your enchanting captain Steve Corley (still almost a CBE) needs to know the numbers for the golfing weekend in Cambridge on the 13th July, which is going to be a one night, two rounds of golf, DSC golf society trip. This is going to be a really good jolly and there are only 16 places available, so it is first come, first served. So please send an email to Jules by the 10th June if you wish to attend. See the previous blog entry for more details and pictures of the venue.  Click Here for more info.

Next Golf Day 25th May Whitehill Golf Club & Numbers requested for the Cambridge Golf Weekend

Ok here are the details for the golf day at Whitehill GC. Please arrive by 9.30 for breakfast- Full English. First tee off time is 10.28. Play 18 holes and then retire to the bar for a bevvie and a few sarnies. The presentation will of course be done by our Honorable Captain Mr Steve Corley ( almost a CBE ). Naturally the winner of the last event Mr Phil Nightingale will be expected to do the honours and tee off first. (Don`t forget to get the trophy engraved Phil). Hopefully somebody will arrange a drink or two elsewhere after the golf day has ended.

The course is undulating and well placed ponds and bunkers along with a variety of trees add to the well groomed fairways and greens.

At 6802 yards the Par 72 course provides a stern test for the low handicapper whilst providing an enjoyable game for the higher handicapper. Firm greens and well drained fairways provide golf 364 days a year, where the challenge changes with the season.

There are 30 places available and you can bring a friend if you so wish. ( There is your answer Phil H. ) Please pass the blog details on to anyone who may not be on my list. The cost for the day is £35 in cash on the day please. I need to know numbers by the 20th May please. If you have already replied please do so again just so that my list is accurate.

Finally please , please let me know who is going to attend the Cambridge Golfing Jolly and whether you intend to do both nights or just one night. WE NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER THAT WE DON`T MESS IT UP FOR YOU GOOD GUYS.

Many thanks, looking forward to Whitehill.

La Manga Tour 2012 Report

Well to all those of you who couldn`t make it- you missed an absolute blinder. We all had a brilliant time with glorious sunshine to boot! And the golf wasn`t too bad either. The tour trophy which our ever thoughtful Captain Mr Steve Corley has kindly agreed to sort out was won by Jules with Woody coming in a close (ish) second. Crow brought his mobility scooter from the UK and nipped off during one of the rounds to do some shopping.

Hopefully this time next year there will be more takers for the overseas tour-its well worth saving up for.

If anyone has any preferences of places they would like to go on tour our new Treasurer Rocky Searle will be pleased to discuss savings plans etc with you. Over and out Jules

Results From The Shire.

On a glorious day in mid March, far too hot for that time of year a very fine turnout of golfers appeared in Barnet to take on the fabulous London Shire golf course. A few pictures of the day are appearing below.

Here we have John Searle showing his prowess with his 'Seve' like trick shot out of the spruce with his trusted 3 iron..... believe it or not he bogeyed the hole!

And the winner on the day was the inimitable Phil Nightingale who returned a tremendous score of 38 off a handicap of 8. Third was Tom Wood who came in with 35 and also took the longest drive, Second was Phil Herring with 36 points. Crow took the nearest the pin on the 7th. So well done to our winners and also the losers because it is also the taking part! Eh Henry/ Darren. Below is a picture of our delighted winner Phil after the prizegiving.

The next event is at Whitehill Golf Course on the 25th May. Arrive for 9.30- usual brekkie, golf, sarnies etc. This is a cheap day out and so I hope that attendance will once again be good. Details to follow shortly, but please book it in your diaries. Cheers Jules

Christmas Salver Results

Another fantastic turnout-28 players in total. The usual array of good and bad was posted around this challenging course. Lowest on the day with a paltry 10 points was Mick Clapp who was just the worst from Adrian Finn on 14, nevermind there is always next year or another sport you could play. The Salver though was won by Phil Herring who came in with a commanding 43 points on the day with Jules and Tom Wood taking 2nd and 3rd respectively with 41 points. Thanks To TJ for his amusing speech, Woody for arranging the cards neatly and Phil Nightingale for the prizes. Hope you all had a good day, watch this space for the next event due around the end of March. The tour is going to get booked for the 10th-13th May, expected cost likely to be £250 for the golf/accommodation and £200 for flights. An email will be out soon requesting numbers.
A very Happy New Year to you all.
