Christmas Salver 2017 Royal Aston 27-12-2017

Hi Folks,

Its that Christmassy time of year again....you know it well grey weather, early dark nights, last minute pressie buying, food cupboards stacked high with stuff you only eat once a year..blah blah. So it goes without saying that there is no finer way of celebrating the excesses of Christmas than a long walk round a classic inland golf course ( such as Royal Aston) chasing a little white ball. Cue the Christmas salver which is a recurring golf discipline every year around Christmas..hurrah I hear you all say.. can`t wait. Well you have only 3 weeks to go to this fantastic day..27th December 2017.

Meet time is 8.30 at Stevenage Golf Course, breakfast on arrival, followed by 18 holes around this splendid parkland course, then dinner followed by the presentation with a guest speaker. What more could you wish for.... perhaps a good session in the Horns afterwards maybe? Cost £40.00

Well all we need are numbers so get your name down fast...in the next 10 days please as I need to confirm numbers ASAP.

So please let me know your availability!

Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and All.
Best wishes
Jules

The Portugal Reckie Tour November 2017.

For those of us lucky enough to go on this fact finding tour it has to be said it was most excellent- except perhaps a bit heavy on the beer and pocket. However much fun was had by all and the golf suffered a bit due to El Capitano insisting on members participating in beer jovialities and staying out way past most peoples bedtimes. Villamoura was fairly quiet, but we managed to keep a few places open longer than they wanted!

The tour was won by the steadiest player on Tour - Philly The Kid who managed to post more than 30 points on all 3 golfing days. Astonishingly El Capitano took second place due mostly to his ability to keep everyone else sleep deprived! Albeit Philly managed to catch quiet a lot of zzzzs whilst staying out late- he has been around a bit and knows when to take a nap!

There are a few pics for all to enjoy please see below (click on the pics to see a large version):

There may be another reckie tour early April 2018, dependent on how much sunshine we get over Winter in the UK.  Those that are interested please mention to either Jules or El Capitano.  All that remains is to remind you all of the Christmas Salver on the 27th December at Royal Aston.

Another blog post will be forthcoming end of November informing you of the details of the salver.

Thank you, over and out.

John O'Gaunt October 2017 Results

Hmmm....was this a good course.........I think not. It probably falls into the above average, but not that entertaining....slightly Mickey Mouse. The set up was great. Lovely clubhouse, excellent service, ambient atmosphere, but not that challenging in my opinion. However that should not detract from the fact that I didn`t play great front nine, but BJ did as did Dan G. Overall the consensus was that it was a great course and a good society track. The weather was somewhat inclement, but did brighten up, so well done to the winners on the day who obviously put in a good effort-albeit Dave who won seemed to spend quite a bit of time teeing off again around the ladies tee!!

Here are some pics of the day:

Winners on the day:

1st Place - Dave Sendall - 38 points
2nd Place - Dan Hennessy - 36 points
3rd Place - Steve Crisp - 35 points (on count back)

Nearest the pins: Stuart Muir and John Scarratt Jnr

Team Winners: Dan Hennessy, John Scarratt Snr, Dave Sendall and Andrew Baxter

It was great for many of us to end up in The Horns pub for afters, we had a really good time playing cards and hope that people would join with us doing the same thing at Christmas after the salver.

The Christmas Salver day is on December 27th at Royal Aston (again).  Blog will come out requesting attendance at the end of November.

A big thank you to: El Capitano, Tim Mountain, Rocky, Danny H, Andrew Baxter for all their help in 2017 to make this society work!  Well done guys!  See you all at the Christmas Salver.

New Revised handicaps are below:

Over and out,

Brocket Hall Results September 2017

This was a day when the weather went from one extreme to the other, beautiful radiant sunshine during the first half of the day followed by a deluge of rain of biblical proportions in the second part, suffice to say the back nine was not played as well. As always the course was fantastic and played really well, with the greens being sublime and beautiful scenery all round.

Many thanks to Terry and Mark Brownjohn for organising this great day out.

As this was classified as a non-society day out (a special if you like) and also because El Capitano had to dash off sharpish after the event the only record of the day are the winner: Gary '16 Hats' and second place Steve Jenner and in turd place (on the podium again) Philly The Kid!

Just a reminder that John O'Gaunt on the Carthagena course and is on the 20th October, there are still some places available for those thinking of coming - please confirm ASAP that you can attend, if you haven't done so already.

The first tee will be at 10.00 am and breakfast and lunch will be included on this day.

Please arrive at 09:00 a.m. for breakfast and tea.

The cost should be no more than £45 all in and will be confirmed on the day.

Another date for your diary..... the Christmas Salver this year is on the 27th December at Royal Aston (for a pleasant change).
