Christmas Salver 2016 at the Royal Aston GC Stevenage Herts 27/12/2016

Well we have nearly made it through another golfing year which just leaves the final get together to celebrate the venerable feast of Christmas. As always we pull out all the stops for the Datchworth Golf society golfing fraternity. Yes we have once again managed -by no mean feat- to book the delightful and accommodating venue of Royal Aston, near Stevenage, quite close to the posh end.

As usual we will have many local celebrities attending so in fact it is more like a pro celebrity event- quite unusual really that these people are willing to give up their time at Christmas, but they are very gracious people.

We have asked the one and only local comic to attend (TJ) or Trevor to his mates to address us all and no doubt give a quite amusingly familiar speech. This by the way if you haven`t attended before usually picks on one member of the golfing fraternity. No doubt he will be working hard on digging up some useful info on this particular person as we speak.

Anyway the particulars of the day are as follows:

ETA  8.45-9am , full english breakfast.
10am golf 18 holes with usual competition format
After the golf 2 course dinner and presentation of prizes with the speech of TJ

It must be noted that our beloved Captain will be in attendance this year and so will be checking that there is a good turnout. ( Captains challenge applies to this event.)

After the presentation we we relocate to the Horns for cards and further beers with the beerpot!!

Please let myself and El Capitano know of your availability by mid December. Cost for the event is £43.00

Many thanks.
Jules

Results Of The Golf Day At Stockwood Park Luton October 2016.

It is with great relief that I can report that all members managed to leave Luton unscathed. Marley assured us that Luton was a good place, but I remain unconvinced. Did meet a nice bloke called Ron who claimed to be an acquaintance of Marley, but again I am unconvinced.

Anyway thanks to Marley we had a very enjoyable round of golf at this rather polluted course- I counted 72 planes landed at London Luton and only 30 took off! I hope I have mentioned your name enough Marley- hopefully people will now talk to you at the next event.

Fortunately we had our enigmatic Captain on hand to administer on the day and all went smoothly as would be expected when he takes things into hand. There are other people worth mentioning too- our Society photographer on the day - Dynamo. Pictures were rubbish- you must do better next time.

We also had a few absentees, most notable was a certain Mr Brownjohn who felt that the course was beneath him ( correct judgement in my opinion ) but he has fallen foul of the committee for his attitude and as you would expect from our beloved Captain , he has been punished for the forthcoming tour! Please see below BJ.

On the day there were some remarkable scores considering that the putting surfaces were like a floor laid by a certain local builder. Anyhow on to the winners.

In first place romping home, playing Any Which Way But Loose was Darren "Cholla" Smith with 43 points.

Second place went to Mr Max Bygraves (Justin) with a fabulous level par round (off 5 ) with 41 points

and in Third came our very own Treasurer Rocky on 40 points.

Justin won nearest the pin in 2 and Dan Maguire won the nearest the pin.

Team winners were Trevor, "Cholla" and the other 2 in that group.

Numpty was our beloved Captain for being a great guy I think.

The naff pictures of the day are below.

We also have a picture sent to us by BJ from the WGC GC awards night for your perusal.

The committee has once again decided to run a Reckie Tour for next years summer Tour. This has now become quite an important fixture in our quest to make golfing good for our society- the lengths we go to. I hope you all appreciate our endeavours. we are checking out Malaga (again) in November. Once again a quite impressive forethought of our fantastic Captain- what a guy.

The Christmas Salver this year has again been booked and will be at the venerable venue of Royal Aston - for a change on the 27th December 2016. Further details will follow but book it into your festive activities.New handicaps below.

Mark Brownjohn has been cut 2 shots for non-attendance and is now off 7.

Next Golf Day - Stockwod Park - Luton 21st October

Unfortunately our booking at The Shire has had to be cancelled due to them changing our tee off times much to Tim Mountain's (DGS' Golf Day Organiser) disgust. As such we have had to find an alternative venue.  To take the pressure off Tim we asked Marley to source another venue and he has come up with Stockwood Park which is a testing little municipal course on the Harpenden side of Luton which he assures us is in very good nick.  He has managed to get us a very good price and we are hoping that the day's cost will be £30 this will include coffee, bacon rolls, 18 holes of golf and a meal afterwards.  First tee off 10 a.m. arrival please for 09:00 a.m.  Marley's one request was that he was allowed to bring his only mate along which the committee have agreed to. Just in case you don't know Marley Nomates, this is a picture of him and we would recommend that more of you try to become his mate 'cos he's lonely.

One of the many ruses Marley uses to find mates

Please don't let on that you are trying to be his mate, he is easily offended, hence having no mates!

Now on a lighter note.......

Here are a few pics from Ireland where Steve 'El Capitano' and Rocky 'Treasurer' chose to go for their 50th birthday golfing bash.

Sorry can't find any pictures of you Rocky.  So if you want to play at Stockwood Park on the 21st October we need to know numbers by the end of next week please (15th of October), please reply to the email and texts sent out.

Much obliged - Jules

Results Royston GC - September 2016

Well folks this was definitely a course that tested your skills and it paid dividends to know a) the layout and b) how to hit straight ball.  Some loved it, some hated it and I suppose it probably was quite difficult for high handicap golfers - although last year's Captain's challenge winner who plays off a lowly 6 handicap couldn't break 20 points, eh Dandido!

The winner on the day unsurprisingly was Ian Coath who had been a member of this course for over 15 years and so knew the layout well. He came in with 35 points and takes the trophy for September, well done Ian.  The second spot went to Philly the Kid with 30 points and Rocky came in third on countback with 30 points too. Well done to these guys.

Nearest the pins went to people other than Ian Coath, because the Captain thought it fair!

Team winners on the day were Ian Coath, Jules, Philly the Kid and David Hutchinson.

Numpty of the day went to Alan Belt for driving his golf ball through a buggy with Ray in it!

Here are a few pictures of the day......

New handicaps following the event:

OK so the next event is at The Shire on Friday 21st October, please forward your availability ASAP.

Many thanks, over and out.

Jules.
