After last year's disappointing weather some of you can at long last get your clubs out for the annual or be it bi-annual this time round, golfing extravaganza hosted by the DSC golf society.
This year we return to Royal Aston a previous favourite on the 29th December with a meet up between 8:30-9:00. On arrival there will be breakfast followed by 18 holes of golf round this wonderful parkland track with a meal afterwards and a fabulous jocular presentation hosted by the one and only Mr. Trevor Johnson (ex-Wasps skipper and previous Mayor of Datchworth). He is noted for his forthright views on the travelling fraternity, dwarves, fat people, non-payers, burka wearers, Yanks, Igors, practical jokers, wooftas and dykes, motor traders and generally anything foreign. Our very own Bernard Manning, Mr Trevor Johnson will probably dig out his old speech once again on Dale Farm, Steptoe and 'Arold to keep you all amused.
No doubt the society will be presenting Crow with a wedding anniversary gift to mark this special occasion. Please feel free to buy Crow a drink on the day to mark his achievement.
Our beloved Captain Mr Steve Corley, almost CBE (surely it must be in this year's New Year honours list) worked tirelessly hard this year for the golf society, will be present on the day but enjoying it purely as a golfer. He has asked me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hopes to see as many of the members there for the Xmas Salver as possible to buy him a special Christmas drink!
You have 10 days to reply to this post, if you reply with a Yes you would like to attend, you will be expected to pay the full amount, which is £40 for the golf day even if you do not show, otherwise turn up on the day and pay £40 cash. After the presentation we will head off to The Horns pub for afters.
This is the official blog for Datchworth SC Golf Society. It will give you details of previous and up and coming golf events.

Results from Manor of Groves
On a pleasant and sunny October's day 16 of our members played at the Manor of Groves in Sawbridgeworth. It was the society's first outing to this club and despite the pleasant conditions the course turned out to be a bit tricky for us, with only the overall winner in the day scoring over 34 points. Having said this, it would be fair to say that the venue though taxing, was great and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Lots of laughter and frolicking all round!
The overall winner on the day was Phil Marlor who was on fine form and won by a margin of 6 points with a fabulous score on the day of 39 points - well done Phil! He was followed by second placed Kev Tyler on 33 points and in third place (on countback) came Mark Brownjohn.
It was at this event that our captain Steve Corley delivered the sad news that a particular society member had been complaining about the handicap system, even going as far as stating that it was rigged and was at times a work of fiction, dreamt up by the society's committee.
Of course this kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated, it would tear at the fibre that holds the society together, so in a court room style, our Captain and acting Judge The Honourable Mr Steve Corley, presented the evidence, the accused was confronted and exposed to the rest of the society members and a choice of punishments were offered, once the said individual pleaded 'guilty' to the charges.......
The guilty party, Dave Brown (shame on you!!) had a choice of the following punishments:
Needless to say Dave 'The Crim' Brown played the card game and lost!! Swiftly followed by what we believe is known as a tactical chunder!

The team winners were Jules, Gary, Phil and Kev. The two nearest the pin winners were the two players who got the balls closest to the pin (forgot who they were!!)

- A 3 shot penalty, non-negotiable to his handicap or
- Playing the high-low card game, for a chance of redemption if successful, or should he lose, the drinking of two raw eggs mixed with Scotch bonnet pepper sauce.
Needless to say Dave 'The Crim' Brown played the card game and lost!! Swiftly followed by what we believe is known as a tactical chunder!

Something for the diary. The Christmas Salver this year will be a return to Royal Aston on the 29th December, expected costs of £37, further details to follow next week, availability appreciated in advance.Thursday, 11 September 2014
Brocket Hall Results - Melbourne Course - 7th September
On a slightly under attended society day we were blessed with a fabulous course, fabulous weather and some terrific golf. Please be assured that those that did not attend missed probably one of the finest golf courses in the U.K. and to those that did I'm sure you would agree that it was a magnificent day of golf.
Please see below a selection of pictures from the day (click on the pictures to view a large version):

And so on to the results.........
Nearest the pins were won by Wayne P and Rocky, well done you two.
The team prize went to Jules, Danny H, Rocky and Mark BJ.
It proved to be a very tight affair at the top, with 3 people coming in with a score of 36 points, but on countback the 1st prize went to John Coyle, 2nd to Danny Horne and 3rd to Jules.
The final award of Turkey of the Day went to Jules, who took off his sock and right shoe to attempt an audacious shot from the water on the edge of the 18th green.... needless to say the ball was never seen again!!
And now here are the new handicaps following the round of golf.....
Finally thanks to Steve Crisp for organising the next outing at The Manor of Groves, Sawbridgeworth on the 17th October. 18 holes, coffee/tea bacon roll on arrival, ham and egg and chips afterwards, plus the customary presentation of prizes by our ebullient and honorable Mr.Steve Corley!
Cost of £35 for the whole day, ETA to be confirmed. Please let us know your availability ASAP and please be aware this will probably be the last golf day before Winter arrives upon us.
Thanks Jules.

Results from Whitehill GC
This was a peculiar day out at Whitehill GC. All our other visits have been glorious sunshine, but for some reason we were subjected to a deluge of rain. Some rather fortunate souls only had to brave 1 hole. Of course it was our brave and tireless Captain Mr Corley who was unfortunate enough to be out at the front who suffered the most and we commend him for his stalwartness, however it was deemed that the course had become unplayable and that we had to retire to the clubhouse until the rain stopped. This meant a delay of about an hour, which did mean that Crow could join us- so it wasn`t all bad.
Anyway the day unfolded and we were surprised by the course and its ability to shed the water. Some good scores came in and just to compliment the handicap system we had a tie at the top for first with the eventual winner being deemed by the countback system which was Tim Mountain. Second was Jules and third was Mark Brownjohn. It must be noted that San Francisco Dave didn`t manage 49 points though this time.
The Team result was won by Philly the Kid, Tim Mountain and Henry Mountain (who came in with his best ever society score- must be all that cycling you are doing Henry).
Nearest the pin was won by Darren Smith and nearest the pin in 2 was won by Jules.
A special mention was made of Phil Marlor who has helped out the society with getting us a cheap round at Brocket which will be on the 7th September (sunday). We need to know who is playing as we only have 24 places available.
Cheers folks
Jules

The 2014 Golf Tour to Benidorm.
Well folks, the golf tour was on....... England were in the World Cup and us lads were staying in a top notch world class hotel with all the trimmings....pool, spa, lovely restaurants, great rooms and golf.........or so we thought. It turns out that we were duped.. Nissan had booked our hotel and we were destined for downtown Benidorm with all the reveling England fans and Crow mobility scooter brigade. Wow what a place not to go to. There is talk of sacking the Tour manager- a hearing will be held on the matter very soon chaired by our very own Captain -of course, who else Mr Steve Corley and a decision will be made on the matter.
But getting back to the golf. A great time was had out on the courses and some memorable scores were posted. On the 1st day San Francisco Dave took the honours with a terrific score of 40. A subsequent cut came into force of course. On the second day we had a quite remarkable score of 47 posted by Kev Tyler who of course got hammered by the handicap committee. And on the final day with Philly the kid bearing down on them Dave, Kev and Phil battled it out for the Tour Trophy with the result being adjudicated by Jules the outright winner for the Tour was San Francisco Dave with a grand total of 109 points for the 3 rounds. Well done Dave on your great golf - shame you are shite at organising hotels (only joking)!

Well done to Steve Crisp for joining the tour at the last minute, looking forward to seeing you at the next golf day and on. Many thanks to all who went to Spain, a cracking little golfing jolly. Cheers Jules

Results for Nazeing golf club
What a fabulous course, the weather was superb and hospitality great. Our beloved Captain Steve Corley would like to thank Jerry Hare and his friends for their attendance and jocularity on the day and he hopes that they can make it as with many other DSC golf members to the next event at Whitehill Golf Course on the 11th July 2014.
So getting back to Nazeing and the results......There was some decidedly average golf, some respectable golf and............some unbelievable golf!
In last place with a none too shameful score (for him) was Henry Mountain on 18 points, he would have had to take 32 shots off his score to have won, almost 2 a hole. But getting to the winners on the day, in 3rd place on countback was Gary Burton off 9 with a very respectable 36 points, in 2nd place off 11 and coming in with 39 points was Kevin Tyler. And in 1st place off a handicap of 17 was
San Francisco Dave with 49 points!!!
With the longest drive was won by Mark Brownjohn, the nearest the pin by San Francisco Dave and the team was won by San Francisco Dave, Kevin Tyler, James Hunt and Steve Crisp.
